About
From Nottingham to London, and now at home in Ireland as a Set Decorator…
Hi, I’m Justine Wright. My career in the creative world began in the UK, where I worked in TV production design as a Designer, Art Director, and Prop Stylist. Over the years, I’ve contributed to a wide range of productions, including drama, light entertainment, music, arts & culture, and children’s television.
My journey started as an Assistant in the Art Department of Live & Kicking. Every week, we designed, created, and dressed sets with props for presenters, comedy sketches, live bands, leprechaun puppets, and even Mr. Blobby! From there, I had the privilege of assisting and art directing on some iconic TV shows like Top of the Pops, Jools Holland, Blue Peter, and Waking the Dead.
These experiences eventually led me to design projects for the BBC and ITV.
Today, I live in Ireland with my family and work in Film, TV & Advertising.
My first role here was as a Buyer, which I loved—it gave me the opportunity to meet suppliers, build connections, and hunt for treasures in attics, antique shops, and car boot sales. It was through this work that I discovered my passion for Set Decoration during a role as an Assistant Set Decorator on The Turning. This experience rekindled my earlier career as an Art Director, where I had designed, sourced, and dressed sets in the UK.
Set decoration is where my heart lies. I love the creative process—watching a script, sketch, or cardboard model evolve into a fully realized 3-dimensional world. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of finding the perfect prop, chair, fabric, or wallpaper and seeing it positioned on set, ready for action.
My work involves researching, sourcing, budgeting, coordinating, and dressing everything from the weird and wonderful to the period-perfect and modern-day. Whether it’s antiques, salvaged treasures, furniture, or fabrics, I collaborate closely with Art Departments, Props, Graphics, Drapes, Greens, Painters, and Construction teams to bring sets to life.
In the past year, I’ve been proud to co-found a new Social Enterprise called Contemporary PROPS 360, a nonprofit prop hire company. Alongside four female colleagues in the Set Decoration department, we recognized the growing need for a sustainable business that could accept prop and furniture donations from film, TV, and advertising productions. Based in Tallaght, we aim to keep props in the circular economy, reducing waste and providing an affordable resource for decorators, buyers, art directors, and photographers. With a curated online catalog of contemporary set decoration, we’re excited to see this Irish resource continue to grow.
